VIES – VAT Information Exchange System
Using the EU online tool VIES, you can check whether a company is registered as trading within the EU.
The VIES system enables verification of VAT identification numbers of business entities registered in the European Union for the needs of cross-border transactions regarding goods and services.
The search results are displayed in two ways:
EU VAT information exists – active number –ย
ย * if the correct answer is obtained, the VIES tool will display the EU VAT information.
or does not exist – inactive number –
* the VAT number does not exist
* the VAT number has not been activated for intra-EU transactions
* the registration has not yet been completed (some EU countries require separate registration of intra-EU transactions).
