Heads of European Union countries offered additional support for Italy during the Brussels summit on Thursday. – There is a chance to close the migration route in the central Mediterranean – said the head of the European Council, Donald Tusk.
Leaders agreed to offer Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni more support for Italy’s work with the Libyan authorities. We have a real chance to close the route through the central Mediterranean – said Tusk at a press conference summing up the first working session of the EU summit.
According to Frontex, the Mediterranean migration route leading to Italy has recently seen the largest decline in migrant inflows. Compared to September last year, the numbers are smaller by more than 2/3. It is the result of Italian activities in Libya.
